MACE ISLAMIC SCHOOL

CURRICULUM GOALS AND BOOKS 2016-2017

OVERALL GOALS

Islamic Studies- Islamic studies will be based primarily on elementary books by Weekend Learning Publication and supplemental materials. The curriculum includes topics on Quran, Hadith, Prophets, Aqidah, Fiqh, Seerah, Islamic History and contemporary issues.

Arabic Studies- Students will learn how to read (and later write) Arabic to enhance the ability to read the Quran. As students progress in each level, Arabic vocabulary will be gradually introduced to increase the understanding of the Quran.

Quranic Studies- Over the period of 10-12 years the students will memorize the entire Juz Amma (30) while understanding the meaning and significance of each of the Surahs, InshaAllah.

Pre-KINDERGARTEN

Islamic Studies- The topics of study are based on elementary texts and supplemental materials selected by the teacher. Primary topics include Shahaadah, Tawheed, names of Allah, five daily prayers, wudu, common short duas, and stories of the prophets.

Arabic Studies- Reading and writing of Arabic alphabets in original/isolated form. Arabic numbers 1-10. Simple Arabic words and their meanings.

Quranic Studies- Memorizing four short Surahs: Surah Al-Fatiha, Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq, and An-Nas.

KINDERGARTEN

Islamic Studies- The topics of study are based on the textbook (Islamic Studies Level K) and supplemental materials selected by the teacher. The main topics include Tawheed, five pillars of Islam, common everyday duas, and stories of the prophets.

Arabic Studies- Reading and writing of Arabic alphabets in original/isolated and different forms (initial, medial and final) along with introduction to vowels: fatha, damma, and kasra. Lessons from the Al-Qaida Al Noorania book.  Simple Arabic words and their meanings.

Quranic Studies- Review short Surahs from Pre-KG and learn new Surahs: Al-Masad, Al-Kawthar,  Al-Kafiroon, An-Nasr, Al-Ma’un.

LEVEL ONE

Islamic Studies- Topics are based on established curriculum designed by the Islamic studies book from the Weekend Learning Series. Supplemental information will also be taught as per discretion of the teacher, for example, duas and stories from the Quran. Learn how to pray (Salaah).

Arabic Studies- Review Arabic alphabet in original and different forms (initial, medial and final). Review of vowels. Introduction to Shadda, Tanween, Sukoon, and Madd. Begin reading short Arabic words with vowels and haroof. Introduction to some Arabic vocabulary.

Quranic Studies- Memorization of Surahs over a 2 year period: Quraish, Al-Feel, Al-Humazah, Al-Asr, At-Takathur, Al-Qariah, Al-Adiyat, Al-Zalzalah, Al-Bayyinah, Al-Qadr.  Learning the general meaning of some of the Surahs. Memorize and learn the meaning of Ayatul Kursi.

LEVEL TWO

Islamic Studies- are based on established curriculum designed by the Islamic studies book from the Weekend Learning Series. Supplemental information will also be taught as per discretion of the teacher, for example, concepts of Halal and Haram, how to pray, and selected hadith.

Arabic Studies- Revision of reading small Arabic words with vowels and haroof. Revision of Shadda, Tanween, Sukoon, and Madd rules and being able to read words with all rules. Practice reading Quranic Ayahs from Juz 29.  Increasing understanding of the Arabic vocabulary from the Quran.

Quranic Studies- Review of all Surahs learned previously. Memorization of Surahs over a 2 year period: Al-Alaq, At-Tin, Al-Inshirah, Ad-Dhuha, Al-Lail, Ash-Shams and Al-Balad. Incorporation of Tajweed rules. Explanation of the meaning, relevance and significance of the Surahs.

LEVEL THREE

Islamic Studies Established curriculum as designed in Islamic studies book from the Weekend Learning Series. Supplemental information will also be taught as per discretion of the teacher, for example, how to pray, selected duas and hadith.

Arabic Studies – Revision of reading short Arabic words with harakaat;  review of rules for shadda, medd, tanween and sukoon; proficiency in reading Arabic words.  Practice reading Quranic ayahs from Juz 28 to improve fluency. Learn the meaning of selected words and Ayahs from Surahs listed under Quranic Studies. Practice writing the words for reinforcement.

Quranic Studies- Memorization of Surahs over a two year period: Al-Fajr, Al-Ghashiyah, Al-Ala, At-Tariq Al-Burooj and Al-Inshiqaq. Explanation of meaning, relevance and significance of the Surahs.

LEVEL FOUR

Arabic Studies– Proficiency in reading Quran with fluency. Learn the meaning of Arabic words and Ayahs  from Surahs listed under Quranic Studies. Practice writing some selected words for reinforcement.

Quranic Studies- Introduction to principles of Tajweed, and application to short Surahs. Practice reading of Juz 27.  Memorization of Surahs over a two year period: Al- Mutaffifin, Al-Infitar and At-Takweer with tajweed.   Explanation of meaning, relevance and significance of the Surahs {tafseer}.

Students are placed after individual assessment.

Arabic Studies – Work with each individual student to enable them to read the Quran proficiently.  This includes revision of reading short Arabic words with harakaat; review of rules for shaddah, medd, tanween and sukoon; proficiency in reading.

Quranic Studies – Memorize short surahs: Al-Fatiha, An-Nas, Al-Falaq, Al-Ikhlas, Al-Lahab,, An-Nasr, Al-Kafiroon, Al-Kauthar, Al-Maun, Al-Quraysh and Al-Feel.

LEVEL SIX

Arabic Studies-The students will be studying from the book “Seven Surahs” (Al-Fatiha, Yaseen, Ar-Rahman, Al-Jumuah, As-Saaf, Al-Mulk, and Al-Asr.) understanding, connecting, and learning the Arabic vocabulary. Also reviewing the meaning of short Surahs from Juz Amma

Quranic Studies- Memorizing of Surahs Al- Mulk, Yaseen, Ar-Rahman Al-Jumuah, As-Saaf; recitation with tajweed.

HIFDH PROGRAM

This is a special program for those interested in memorizing the Quran with tajweed. Students must be able to read the Quran fluently and be committed to memorizing. The program is individualized to meet the expectations of the students. Students will be introduced to the meaning of the Quran. There is a limit on the number of students admitted to the program. Classes are held on Sundays 11:00 am to 2:00 pm.

ARABIC LANGUAGE COURSE

This course teaches essential language skills through applied grammar.  The vocabulary ranges from classical and Quranic Arabic to words and expressions current in modern Arabic. The course is offered free to MACE students.

SATURDAY PROGRAM

PREREQUISITE COURSE

This course is intended for students who do not have prior Islamic School background or training.The topics of study are  based on elementary texts and supplemental materials selected by the teacher.

BEGINNER QURAN READING (QUR101) Not offered in 2016

The goal of this course is to enable the student to read the Quran with correct pronunciation and tajweed in a short period of time. A textbook and a CD will be provided. A poster will be used in the classroom. This special course will provide a solid foundation in Quran recitation to last a lifetime. It begins with the Arabic alphabets and how to connect the letters, short and long vowels, short words, vowel-less letters, doubled letters, short sentences from the Quran, application of tajweed rules. Memorize short surahs: Al-Fatiha, An-Nas, Al-Falaq, Al-Iklhas, Al-Lahab, An-Nasr, Al-Kafiroon, Al-Kauthar, Al-Ma’un, Al-Quraysh, Al-Feel

INTERMEDIATE QURAN  READING (QUR102) Not offered in 2016

The focus of this course is on improving the flow of reciting the Quran with correct pronunciation and proper tajweed. The student will learn and strictly apply the tajweed rules. The prerequisite for taking this course is Beginner Quran Reading (QUR101} as described above or equivalent background in reading Quran as approved by the instructor. Review of short Surahs memorized.
